Best Family Hotels in Malta: Top Resorts for Kids (2026)

Two things decide this booking, and the star rating is neither of them: the board basis, and which water feature your children will actually use. All six resorts below sit in the north, all have a kids' club, and they separate on whether all-inclusive earns its money where they stand and on what the pool area does.

The second question has a seasonal trap in it. Several headline outdoor pools shut from November to March, and the pool that is heated at those resorts is the indoor one – so a shoulder-season family should book on that, not on the lagoon photo. Every property below was checked on 28 August 2026.

Which one should you book?

db Seabank Resort and Spa

The default answer if you want one all-inclusive booking and no further decisions. It is one of Malta's largest resorts at around 500 rooms, rated 4-star superior, and it runs the full package: meals, drinks, entertainment and a kids' club for ages 4 to 12.

For children the draw is water. It has the largest lagoon-style outdoor pool in Malta, a shallow children's pool with water slides, and separately an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar for the parents. Family rooms and suites sleep up to six.

Radisson Blu Golden Bay

Book this one if the beach has to be a walk of seconds and you would rather pay than compromise. It sits directly above Golden Bay, which is sand rather than the rock and lido arrangement most Maltese hotels rely on.

It has two outdoor pools, a children's pool and an indoor pool that is heated and open year-round, plus a free kids' club in summer. That indoor pool is the reason it works as well in March as in August.

AX ODYCY

The one to book when the children care more about a splash park than about sand. ODYCY sits on the Qawra seafront and reopened in the second quarter of 2024 after a full refurbishment that added four new floors, so it is effectively a new hotel behind an old address.

It has a family splash park and two pool areas, and an all-inclusive board option exists, though the package contents vary – check what your specific rate covers. One warning on research: reviews filed under "AX Seashells Resort at Suncrest" describe the same building before the refurbishment.

db San Antonio Resort

The pick for water-mad children whose parents still want to eat out some evenings. Its headline is a splash park built around a giant pirate ship, and it runs the same all-inclusive model as its Seabank sibling across over 500 Moorish-inspired rooms, rated 4-star superior.

It sits in central Bugibba rather than on a beach, which sounds like a downgrade and often is not: the seafront, the shops and the Blue Lagoon boat jetty are all flat walks away. Family rooms and suites here also sleep up to six.

Ramla Bay Resort

The only resort here with both a private sandy beach and swimming that genuinely works in January. It occupies the Marfa tip at Malta's northern end, looking across to Gozo and Comino, with three saltwater pools outdoors.

The winter case is the unusual part. It has one indoor heated adults-only pool and one indoor heated family pool, both kept at 27 to 30°C under Maltese health regulations and open year-round, while the outdoor facilities run April to October, weather permitting. Younger children get a splash pool, soft play and a kids' club.

Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz

The luxury family option, and the only one that involves a ferry. It sits in Gozo countryside at San Lawrenz with 141 rooms over eight floors and five pools – two indoor and three outdoor, plus a children's pool – open from 07:00 to 21:00.

Children get a club, tennis and a snorkelling school; parents get one of the larger spas in the Mediterranean and considerably more space than the Malta resort strip allows. Whether the indoor pools are heated is not published, so ask before a winter booking.

Two more worth knowing about

Mellieħa Holiday Centre is the answer for larger families and for self-catering. It is a bungalow complex on Mellieħa Bay – 151 bungalows of roughly 70 m², sleeping up to six – with an outdoor pool complex and an indoor swim-out pool heated in winter. Note the age rule: from 1 June to 4 September the indoor pool and spa are restricted to guests aged 15 and over. Check Mellieħa Holiday Centre rates.

Maritim Antonine Hotel and Spa is the mid-range winter pick, up in Mellieħa village rather than on the bay, with 280 rooms, two outdoor pools, a children's pool and a heated indoor pool open year-round. All-inclusive maths, and the pool that is open when you go

All-inclusive is not automatically the cheaper choice in Malta. It wins where walking out for dinner is awkward – Golden Bay, the Marfa tip and the far end of Mellieħa Bay are all resorts you would drive away from, so the package replaces taxi fares as much as restaurant bills.

It wins less in Qawra and Bugibba. That strip is flat, walkable and dense with family restaurants, which is exactly why db San Antonio and AX ODYCY suit families who want to leave the resort on half the evenings. • db Seabank: the indoor freshwater pool and indoor children's pool are heated from 1 November to 31 March, and the indoor pool closes in summer for maintenance.
• Ramla Bay Resort: two indoor pools at 27–30°C, year-round; outdoor facilities April to October.
• Radisson Blu Golden Bay: a heated indoor pool open all year, alongside the two outdoor ones.
• db San Antonio: the indoor pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool are closed from 24 August to 7 September 2026 for maintenance.
• Mellieħa Holiday Centre: indoor swim-out pool heated in winter, 15 and over only between 1 June and 4 September.

When to book

Family rooms are the first category to sell out for July and August, and at the resorts above they go months rather than weeks ahead. Book as soon as the school dates are fixed – you are competing for a small number of six-sleeper rooms, not for the resort's general availability.
