Which Gozo villa should you book?
The choice comes down to how many of you there are, because the farmhouses are sized very differently and the price per head swings hard with occupancy.

Book the one that matches your group and stop comparing. Gozo's farmhouse stock is small, individually owned and not interchangeable – there is no "same house, cheaper elsewhere" waiting to be found. The good ones for July and August go months ahead, and a house that shows availability today is routinely gone within the week in spring.
Gozobreak – Tal-Barun Farmhouse, Kerċem
The strongest all-round pick, and the one to book if you are two to four people. Tal-Barun is a genuine conversion rather than a new build dressed up as one – roughly 300 years old, with the original red shutters, stone slab ceilings and limestone flooring kept intact through the restoration.
You get two en-suite bedrooms, a private pool, a sun terrace and roof access, which is the right shape for a couple or two couples sharing. It is a guest favourite on Booking with a strong score across a genuine run of verified stays, which for a property this small is meaningful – small farmhouses have nowhere to hide a bad kitchen or a cold pool.
The location is quietly excellent: a couple of minutes' drive from Dwejra Bay, a short stroll to Kerċem's village square, shops and bars, and close enough to Victoria to do a supermarket run without planning your day around it.

Ta' Nikola Farmhouse, Xagħra
The best-reviewed villa in this guide, and the pick for a family who wants village life on the doorstep. Ta' Nikola sits in Xagħra, Gozo's most self-catering-heavy village, with dozens of guests consistently singling out the Gozitan hosts for warmth and hospitality – the kind of detail that shows up again and again once a property has a genuine review history rather than a handful of ratings.
The house has three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, plus an extra bathroom off the living space, and the standout feature is a light-up pool with views across to the Citadel – a small, specific thing that photographs well and matters more in the evening than any brochure line about it. A barbecue area rounds out the outdoor space.
Ramla Bay and Marsalforn are both a short drive away, and Xagħra's own village square, restaurants and the Ġgantija temples are close enough to walk to. Check Ta' Nikola availability.
Farmhouse with Private Pool, Il-Pergla, Xagħra
The one for a big group. This is a four-bedroom, five-bathroom farmhouse in Il-Pergla on the Xagħra side, and the bathroom count is the point – it is what separates a workable eight-person holiday from a queue every morning.
It comes with air conditioning throughout, a terrace and balcony with pool views, barbecue facilities, on-site parking and a private pool. Ramla Beach is about 1.7 km away and Marsalforn about 2 km – both close enough to be a habit rather than an outing.
Split across seven or eight people, the nightly rate lands well below what the same group would pay for three or four hotel rooms, and you get a kitchen, a pool and a barbecue rather than a breakfast buffet. Check rates for the Il-Pergla farmhouse.
Which part of Gozo should you stay in?
The island is small – nowhere is more than about 20 minutes from anywhere – but the villages have genuinely different characters.
- East (Xagħra, Nadur): closest to Ramla Bay's red sand and the Ġgantija temples, with proper village squares and the most self-catering stock. The default choice for a first visit.
- West (Għarb, San Lawrenz, Kerċem): quietest, closest to Dwejra and the west-coast walks, with the strongest sense of rural Gozo. Best if you want to see almost no one.
- South (Munxar, Sannat, Xlendi): countryside and Citadel views, with Xlendi Bay's swimming and restaurants a short drive down the valley.
Hire a car. This is not optional advice dressed as a suggestion – the farmhouses sit down narrow lanes in villages where bus links thin out fast once you leave Victoria, and a villa holiday without a car turns into a taxi-fare holiday. What does a Gozo villa with a private pool cost?
Rates move with size and season more than with luxury level.
- Off-peak, small farmhouse for a couple: from around €100 a night
- Peak summer, mid-size family farmhouse: typically two to three times that
- Large luxury villa sleeping ten or more in August: several hundred a night
The per-head maths is what makes these work. A farmhouse sleeping eight at ~€300 a night is under €40 per person – less than a mid-range hotel room in Sliema, with a private pool and a kitchen attached.
Two things to confirm on the listing before you commit, because both cost real money to get wrong:
- Is the pool heated? An unheated Gozo pool is bracing outside June to September, and "pool" in a listing does not imply heated.
- What is the actual bed configuration? "Sleeps 8" sometimes means sofa beds in the lounge. All three houses above list real bedrooms, but check yours.
Villa or hotel: which suits your trip?
A farmhouse is self-catering in the full sense. No reception, no housekeeping, no restaurant – you shop in village stores, cook, and look after the place. What you get back is total privacy, a pool nobody else uses, and considerably more space per euro.
