Gozo Villas with a Private Pool: 6 Farmhouses Worth Booking

A genuinely private pool in the Maltese islands almost always means a converted farmhouse on Gozo – mainland Malta has comparatively few, and most Gozo pools are unheated, bracing outside June to September. For a family of up to seven, book Ta' Nikola Farmhouse in Xagħra, the highest-scoring house in this guide. Below: six verified self-catering farmhouses, the one heated indoor pool we found, the right village and what it all costs.

Which Gozo villa with a private pool should you book?

Start with group size, not style. These are single, individually run houses, sized very differently, and the cost per head swings hard with how many of you fill the beds.

Book early, whichever you pick. When we checked on 3 November 2026, Ta' Nikola and The Almonds were already unavailable for the second week of August 2027, and Ta' Nikola was also full for the mid-May and early-June weeks we tried. There is no identical house down the road to fall back on.

Ta' Nikola Farmhouse, Xagħra

The family pick. Ta' Nikola is an entire farmhouse in the Tal-Barmil area of Xagħra with three bedrooms, four bathrooms and room for seven – six beds plus a sofa bed. Booking.com's listing confirms the pool is private to the house, alongside a terrace, air conditioning and a full kitchen.

It holds the highest guest score of the six houses in this guide. Booking.com sums up why: guests rate it for the host, the views and the pool.

Marsalforn Beach is 2.8 km away and the Citadel in Victoria 2.6 km. An April 2027 week came in at ~€160 a night.

Book this one if you are a family of five to seven and want the safest bet on the island.

Gozobreak Farmhouses, Kerċem

The big-group booking. Gozobreak is a small local operator with restored farmhouses in Kerċem and San Lawrenz, about five minutes' drive from Victoria. Booking.com describes them as villas "each with a private pool and garden".

One listing covers four sizes: a two-bedroom villa for four, a three-bedroom and a Superior villa for six, and a Deluxe villa for nine. Dwejra and Fungus Rock are within 4 km, and Xlendi Bay is about five minutes by car.

Bigger than nine? Go direct. Gozobreak's own site says its three farmhouses in Santa Luċija, a hamlet of Kerċem, connect through back doors by the pools – and together they sleep up to 21 in 10 bedrooms.

One naming trap: Gozobreak runs a house called Ta' Nikola too. It is a different farmhouse from Ta' Nikola in Xagħra.

Book this one if you are seven to nine people, or several families who want one base without sharing a pool with strangers.

Tal-Barun Farmhouse, San Lawrenz

The couples' booking. Tal-Barun is a recently renovated two-bedroom farmhouse in San Lawrenz – exposed beams, traditional Maltese tiles and a private plunge pool. One double and two single beds make it right for a couple, or two couples sharing.

Be clear about the pool. It is a plunge pool, and the listing calls it seasonal – made for cooling off in July, not for lengths in March.

The location is the draw: Ta' Pinu Basilica is a 14-minute walk and Dwejra Bay about 2.4 km away. A November 2026 week came in at ~€140 a night.

Book this one if there are two to four of you and you want a pool of your own without paying for bedrooms you won't use.

Carini Farmhouses, Għarb

The proven family option. Carini is six self-catering villas on a small hill on the edge of Għarb, each with a private pool and its own entrance. Layouts run to three and four bedrooms, sleeping six or eight, with marble Jacuzzi baths.

It has the longest review record of any property in this guide – reassuring in a market of small, individually run houses. Ta' Pinu Basilica is about 1.4 km away, and an April 2027 week came in from ~€160 a night.

Two families can book two villas on the same site and keep a pool each. It's easier than squeezing everyone into one house.

Book this one if you are a family of six to eight and value a long, consistent track record over historic character.

Haven Farmhouse, Żebbuġ

The sea-view booking. Haven is an entire three-bedroom, four-bathroom farmhouse in the Żebbuġ countryside on Gozo's north coast – Booking.com lists the area as Għajn Melel. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, with a fourth on the ground floor, and it sleeps six.

The view is the point. Booking.com's listing confirms a private pool and sea views, and guests single out the view from the pool terrace. They rate it almost as highly as Ta' Nikola, on a shorter run of reviews.

Xwejni Bay is about 1.1 km away and Marsalforn Beach about 2.4 km. It isn't cheap: an April 2027 week came in at ~€280 a night, closer to The Almonds than to the mid-range houses.

Book this one if there are up to six of you and the view from the pool matters more than the price.

The Almonds Luxury Villa, San Lawrenz

The luxury pick. If you are after a luxury Gozo holiday rental with a private pool, this is the one we would shortlist. The Almonds is a four-bedroom, five-bathroom country house of about 800 m², sleeping up to nine.

You get a private pool with a view, a sauna, a garden and a living room with a fireplace. Ta' Pinu Basilica is a 16-minute walk.

Expect to pay for it. At ~€320 a night for an April 2027 week, it costs roughly twice the mid-range houses here. It has only a few Booking.com reviews, all of them strong.

Book this one if the house and the pool are the holiday, and you want space for nine without anyone drawing the short straw.

Do Gozo villas have a heated or indoor pool?

Mostly, no. None of the six houses above lists a heated pool on Booking.com, and Tal-Barun's plunge pool is listed as seasonal. On Gozo, "pool" means an outdoor, unheated pool unless the listing says otherwise.

The one Gozo villa with a heated indoor pool we found listed on Booking.com is Enchanting Villa Retreat in Għarb. It has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a games room, an outdoor pool and a heated indoor pool, a 4-minute walk from Ta' Pinu Basilica.

The catch is in the host's own note: the indoor pool is heated from mid-November to mid-April only. September and October are not covered. Its Booking.com reviews are thin and mixed, so it stays out of our grid – read the recent ones before you commit.

Which part of Gozo should you stay in?

Gozo is small – most drives are under half an hour – but the villages feel different.

• East (Xagħra, Nadur): closest to Ramla Bay's red sand and the Ġgantija temples, with proper village squares. Ta' Nikola is here.
• North (Żebbuġ, Marsalforn): hillside villages above the north coast, closest to Xwejni Bay and Marsalforn's seafront. Haven is here.
• West (Għarb, San Lawrenz, Kerċem): quietest, closest to Dwejra and the west-coast walks. Four of the six houses in this guide are here.
• South (Munxar, Sannat, Xlendi): countryside and cliffs, with Xlendi Bay's swimming and restaurants a short drive down the valley.

What does a Gozo villa with a private pool cost?

Size and season move the price more than luxury does. These are seven-night rates on Booking.com, checked on 3 November 2026, before 7 % VAT and Malta's eco-contribution:

All rows are April 2027 weeks unless marked. August costs about half as much again: the Gozobreak three-bedroom villa at ~€150 a night in April was ~€230 for the second week of August 2027.

The per-head maths is what makes these work. Split nine ways, Gozobreak's Deluxe villa comes to ~€22 per person per night in April, with a pool and a kitchen thrown in.

Check the beds as well as the headcount. Ta' Nikola's "sleeps seven" includes a sofa bed – fine for a teenager, less so for a fourth couple.

Self-catering villa or hotel: which suits your Gozo trip?

A Gozo farmhouse is the most private kind of Gozo accommodation with a pool – and self-catering in the full sense: no reception, no restaurant, no daily housekeeping. You shop in village stores, cook and look after the place. What you get back is total privacy, a pool nobody else uses and far more space per euro.

Budget for the deposit the nightly rate hides. Ta' Nikola takes ~€150 in cash on arrival; Tal-Barun takes ~€500 by card a week before you travel. Both are refunded after an inspection.

Book a hotel instead if you want breakfast made, daily cleaning and someone at a desk when the Wi-Fi drops. Malta's hotels rarely offer a truly private pool, but a plunge-pool suite gets close – our Malta hotels with a private pool guide covers the nearest options.

Secure the house first. On Gozo, the villa is the scarce part of the trip – not the flights, not the car.
