Malta does have swim-up rooms – but they cluster in a handful of hotels in Mellieħa, with a couple of upscale options further south in Sliema and St Julian's. The offer is narrower than in large Spanish or Turkish resorts, room numbers are limited and summer availability disappears fast. What is a swim-up room?
A swim-up room is a ground-floor hotel room with a terrace that opens directly onto a shared swimming pool. You step from your room straight into the water – no corridor, no changing room, no descent to a pool deck.
This is different from a pool-view room (which has a view of the pool but no direct access) or a private pool (which is yours alone). The pool in a swim-up setup is shared with other guests staying in the same hotel. In Malta, this typically means an outdoor resort pool, usable from April to November, often heated in shoulder season.
The term "swim-up" gets used loosely in listings. Before booking, confirm the room opens directly onto the water – not just that it has a pool nearby – and check photos of the exact room type.

Maritim Antonine Hotel & Spa – Mellieħa
The closest thing to a true swim-up resort on Malta. Maritim Antonine is a 4-star spa hotel in Mellieħa village where specific ground-floor rooms open straight onto one of its three pools. Step out of your terrace door and into the water.
It is not a vast resort, which keeps the pool atmosphere calmer than the all-inclusive alternatives. The spa, multiple pool levels and Mellieħa's quieter hilltop setting suit couples who want the swim-up experience without the bustle of a large complex. Mellieħa Bay beach is a short drive downhill.

db Seabank Resort & Spa – Mellieħa Bay
The all-inclusive swim-up option. db Seabank sits directly on Mellieħa Bay and operates Malta's largest lagoon-style pool complex, with a selection of rooms opening onto it. Everything is included – meals, drinks, activities – which changes the value equation for families and longer stays.

The Westin Dragonara Resort – St Julian's
A different category. The Westin's Bay Suites sit on the Dragonara peninsula in St Julian's, with some featuring a private infinity pool or direct sea-access terrace. It is not a classic ground-floor swim-up setup – it is more suite-with-own-pool – but it delivers the water-on-your-doorstep experience at 5-star level with two private beaches on either side.
St Julian's means restaurants, nightlife and the Gozo ferry are close, which suits travellers who want pool access alongside the city rather than a quieter resort base.

1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa – Sliema
A 4-star spa hotel in Sliema offering suites with a private pool or plunge pool, an infinity pool overlooking the sea and beach club access. Less a swim-up in the traditional sense and more a suite-with-pool setup, but it delivers pool-on-your-terrace along Sliema's promenade and café culture.
Best suited to couples who want the pool experience alongside Sliema's promenade, café culture and ferry connections rather than a resort town.

When to book swim-up room holidays in Malta
Swim-up rooms are the first allocation to go at every Malta hotel that offers them. By March, July and August dates at Maritim Antonine and db Seabank are typically limited; April often sees summer fill completely. The rule: book at least 2–3 months ahead for peak season.

Swim-up room or private pool?
If you want a pool that is genuinely yours alone, Malta's hotels mostly do not deliver it.
