A private boat trip in Malta means the whole boat and a skipper are yours for as long as you have booked them. It is priced per group rather than per head, and it is the one dependable way to be swimming at the Blue Lagoon before the day boats arrive and turn it into a floating car park.

That costs less than it first sounds once you divide it. Short skippered runs start under €200 for a couple of hours, while a full day is roughly €500 to €1,200 for the boat, whoever is standing on it. It is the obvious call for a couple marking an occasion, a family who wants space, or a group of six.

What a private charter costs

Every figure below is the price of the boat in 2026, not a per-person rate, and it moves with the season and the vessel.

What you are paying for is usually the skipper, all fuel, safety gear and a cooler with ice and water, with snorkelling equipment thrown in more often than not. Lunch and alcohol are normally extra, so check what a listing actually includes before you compare two prices.

Is it worth it over a group cruise?

Not always, and it is worth being honest about that. Travelling solo or as a couple watching the budget, a scheduled catamaran or group cruise covers the same water for a fraction of the per-person cost, and the Blue Lagoon looks much the same from a busy deck.

The maths flips with numbers and with intent. From about four people up, or for anyone who wants the day on their own terms – an early lagoon, lunch when they feel like it, a route decided that morning – private stops being a splurge and starts being the sensible option.

Booking and when to go

Lead times are what people underestimate. For July and August, book 8–12 weeks ahead; in spring and autumn 4–6 weeks is usually enough. There are far fewer private boats than group-cruise seats, and the best-reviewed skippers go first.
