Popeye Village Malta: 2026 Ticket Prices, Hours and Whether It's Worth It

Popeye Village is the wooden film set built on Anchor Bay for the 1980 Robin Williams musical and kept ever since as a family fun park. It is odd, photogenic and considerably smaller than the photographs suggest. What most guides get wrong is the price: there is no single ticket, there are three seasonal tiers, and they differ by €10 a head.

The season you visit changes what you get, not just what you pay. Only the June-to-September ticket includes the water inflatables and the swimming in the bay, which is the part most families actually come for. What do Popeye Village tickets cost in 2026?

Three tiers, published by the park itself and checked in August 2026. Note that the hours move with the price.

Two rules catch people out. Every attraction area closes ten minutes before the official closing time, so arriving an hour before the gate shuts leaves you closer to fifty minutes. And anyone aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult of 18 or over, which rules out dropping teenagers off for the afternoon.

Booking through the official site gives you a refund if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. Booking ahead is worth doing to skip the gate queue in summer rather than because gate sales have stopped – they have not.

What is included at each price?

The gap between the low and high tiers is real, and it is entirely about water.

Included all year round:

• The film-set village: the wooden buildings, most of which you can walk into.
• The museum and cinema: a small exhibition plus a documentary on the 1980 shoot.
• Live shows: character and animation performances at set times through the day.
• Mini-golf and a kids' assault course.
• Sunbathing areas and the viewpoints over Anchor Bay.

Added in high season only, 1 June to 30 September:

• Water inflatables assault course in the bay.
• Floating sun decks, splash pools and bay swimming.
• Sunbeds and umbrellas.

Boat rides around Anchor Bay, souvenir photos and food are charged separately at any time of year, so budget a little beyond the ticket if you are there with children for a full afternoon.

What is there actually to do inside?

Walk the village first, before the sun gets high. The appeal is that it is a complete fake town in a real cove: crooked doorways, wooden walkways and a view down over the water that photographs far better than a film set has any right to.

Check the show schedule when you arrive rather than wandering in blind. The character shows run at fixed times and are the main draw for under-eights; miss them and a winter visit in particular thins out fast.

Set expectations on scale. This is not a theme park and there are no rides. In the low season, when the bay is closed, allow about ninety minutes to two hours of walking, looking and photographing. In high summer with the inflatables open, families tend to stay three hours or more.

Getting there and when to go

The address is Anchor Bay, Triq tal-Prajjet, Mellieħa, on the northwest coast. A car is easiest and there is parking on site; by bus you travel to Mellieħa and connect, which adds time on the last stretch, and our getting around Malta guide covers the route options.

Go early. The 09:30 opening beats both the midday heat and the coach arrivals, and the first character show usually lands while the site is still quiet. If the water park is the reason you are going, a summer afternoon works better and you can swim once the crowd thins.

Is Popeye Village worth it?

With young children in summer, comfortably yes. €25 for an adult and €16 for a child buys a half-day with swimming, inflatables, shows and shade, which is better value than it looks next to a beach day that costs nothing but entertains nobody under seven. It is one of the easier wins on a family trip to Malta.

Without children, it is a €25 photo opportunity in high season and a €15 one in winter. The village is genuinely charming for about an hour, and you can see most of it from the clifftop above Anchor Bay for free. If the Popeye connection means nothing to you, the low-season ticket is the sensible way to satisfy the curiosity.
