The underrated bonus is daylight. Sunset past 20:20 around the solstice means a beach afternoon and an evening in a town are the same day rather than competing for it, and the last hour of light on the water is the best of the day.
Can you swim in Malta in June?
Yes, and this is the month that changes. The sea reaches about 22–23°C in June, which is the threshold where swimming stops being a decision and becomes the obvious thing to do with an afternoon.
The contrast with May is the useful frame. May's water sits at 18–20°C, cold enough that most visitors get in once and stay in for five minutes. June's is warm enough for an hour, for children, and for anyone who does not consider themselves a swimmer.

June wins on price, crowds, humidity and night-time comfort; July wins on sea temperature and nothing else that matters. The 18°C June night against July's 22°C is the difference people notice most and mention least – it decides whether you sleep well and whether an evening walk is pleasant.
If your trip is built around the water and two extra degrees of sea temperature justify the peak-season premium, take July. For most visitors, June is the better version of the same holiday.
Is Malta worth visiting in June?
For a summer trip, it is the strongest month of the year. You get full summer conditions, a comfortable sea, the longest days and near-zero rain, at a point where prices and crowds are still climbing rather than peaked.
The trade-off is modest and worth naming. Late June is genuinely hot, and the midday sun on an island with little shade is tiring, so the sightseeing discipline that dominates July already applies in the last week: towns early or after 18:00, water in between.

What is there to do in Malta in June?
The full summer programme, plus the one genuinely traditional event on the Maltese calendar.
L-Imnarja is June's headline. Held at Buskett Gardens from 25 to 29 June 2026 and tied to the feast of St Peter and St Paul on the 29th, it is Malta's oldest folk festival: an agricultural show, horse and donkey races, folk singing and a mass fenkata of rabbit stew eaten outdoors under the trees. It is the least touristic thing you can do in a Maltese June.

What does June cost, and what should you pack?
June prices climb steadily rather than jumping. The first fortnight still carries something close to shoulder-season rates; by the last week you are paying most of a July premium as demand pulls forward towards the school holidays.
Book the popular boat trips ahead from mid-June onwards. The operators are running full schedules by then, but so is demand, and the Comino sailings are the first thing to fill.
Packing is full summer with one caveat about the evenings:
- Light, breathable clothes and swimwear – highs of 28–30°C for most of the month
- Strong sun protection and a hat – the June sun is at its most direct around the solstice
- A very thin layer – nights near 18°C are mild, but a sea breeze after dark takes the edge off
- Comfortable shoes – for the early-morning sightseeing that June still rewards
